How to divide fractions?
Paano maghati ng hating-bilang (praksyon)?

There are 3 simple steps in dividing fractions:
Mayroong 3 simpleng hakbang sa paghahati ng praksyon:

Halimbawa:

1)Turn the second fraction (the one you want to divide by) upside-down or get its reciprocal.
Baliktarin ang ikalawang praksyon o kunin ang reciprocal (kabalikan) nito.
The reciprocal of a number is a number which when multiplied together, the product is always 1.
Ang reciprocal o kabalikan ng isang bilang ay ang bilang kung saan kapag minultiply mo silang dalawa, ang makukuhang sagot ay laging isa (1).
Example:
What is the reciprocal of 1/2? The reciprocal of 1/2 is 2. Why?  1/2 x 2 = 1
What is the reciprocal of 3/4? The reciprocal of 3/4 is 4/3. Why? 3/4 x 4/3 = 1

2) Multiply the first fraction by that reciprocal. I-multiply ang unang praksyon sa nakuhang reciprocal ng ikalawang praksyon.

3) Simplify the fraction (if needed). Gawing simple ang praksyon (kung kailangan).

To simplify the fraction, find its Greatest Common Factor (GCF) and divide both the numerator and denominator by this GCF.

Para maging simple ang praksyon, hanapin ang Pinakamalaking Parehong Factor nito at idivide ang numerator at denominator ng GCF na ito.

What are the factors of 15 and 28? 

Ang factors ng 15 ay 1, 3 , 5 at 15 dahil  1 x15 = 15 at 3 x 5 = 15

Ang factors ng 28 ay 1, 2, 14 at 28 dahil 1 x 28 = 28 at 2 x 14 = 28.

Makikita sa itaas na ang GCF ng 15 at 28 ay 1. Dahil hindi naman mababago ang porma ng 15/28 kapag dinivide sa 1, masasabing simple na ang sagot na 15/28.

MULTIPLICATION OF FRACTIONS

How to multiply fractions?
Paano mag-multiply ng hating-bilang (praksyon)?

Follow the steps below in multiplying fractions;
Sundin ang mga sumusunod na hakbang sa pagmumulitply ng praksyon:


Example (Halimbawa)

1. Multiply the numerator of the first fraction by the numerator of the second fraction.
Imultiply ang numerator (numerong nasa itaas) ng unang praksyon sa numerator ng ikalawang praksyon.

2. Multiply the denominator of the first fraction by the denominator of the second fraction.
Imultiply ang denominator (numerong nasa ibaba) ng unang praksyon sa denominator ng ikalawang praksyon.


3. Simplify the answer or reduce it to lowest term.
 Gawing simple ang sagot o paliitin ang  termino/antas.

To simplify, find the Greatest Common Factor  (GCF) of the numerator and the denominator. 
The factors of 6 are 1,2,3 and 6.
The factors of 20 are 1, 2, 4, 5, 10 and 20.
We can see that the GCF of 6 and 20 is 2. Dividing the numerator and the denominator by 2 / 2 will not change the value of the original fraction since 2/2 = 1.
